Superdrive Two-Wheel-Drive Challenge
& UAC Perpetual Trophy!

Superdrive Motorsports Centre confirmed sponsorship of the Pacenotes Northern Ireland Rally Championship two-wheel-drive category for third consecutive year at the Eurocables Stages Rally last Saturday 16th February at the Kirkistown Racing Circuit.

The Ulster Automobile Club have also offered an exciting new addition to the category by providing a unique and special trophy that has been recently re-discovered after thirty years in an attic for the overall 2008 two-wheel-drive champion.

The trophy is called the Circuit of Ireland International Rally Larne Perpetual Trophy. In 2008 the winner of the Superdrive Two-Wheel-Drive Challenge will receive this historic trophy previously won by Roger Clarke, Cathal Curley, Dessie McCartney and Russell Brookes.

Superdrive Centre Manager Safron Thomas said:

"We are proud to continue our sponsorship of such a competitive category in the Pacenotes Northern Ireland Rally Championship and grateful to the UAC for donating such a fantastic and historic perpetual trophy."

The trophy was last won by Brookes in 1977 and then misplaced for more than 30 years until Brookes recovered the trophy whilst doing home renovations and returned the historic piece to the UAC recently.

Chairman of the UAC Stephen Potts said:

"To be immortalised on a trophy alongside such greats as Clarke, Curley, McCartney and Brookes is sure to be a big motivation to get that extra second per mile on the fantastic Northern Ireland Stages."

The Superdrive Two-Wheel-Drive Challenge & UAC Perpetual Trophy prizes include a £100 part payment of entry fee for another round of the Pacenotes Northern Ireland Rally Championship for the first place two-wheel-drive in each round and a £500 team or corporate activity day at Superdrive in 2009.

Any two-wheel-drive car entered in any of the Championship rounds is eligible for the prizes provided they display Superdrive decals on their car. Any team finishing first without decals will forfeit the prize and position in the Superdrive Two-Wheel-Drive Challenge. Decals are available by contacting the centre on 028 3885 2545.

Round one of the Pacenotes Northern Ireland Championship at Kirkistown last Saturday saw Wesley Patterson and Terence Teggart claim the Superdrive two-wheel-drive prize in their MKII Escort. Seventh placed Patterson had another astounding drive at the County Down venue, beating a lot of more powerful four wheel drive machinery. In the two-wheel-drive battle, he finished more than half a minute ahead of James Kennedy and John Rowan, with John Waring and Mo Downey third.

The next round of the Championship is the McGrady Insurance Stages at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit on Saturday 8th March 2008.
